Gary Yee, Ed.D. has served in a broad array of educational settings which inform the work of the Career Ladders Project. Retiring as Vice Chancellor of Educational Services (2008) for the Peralta Community College District, where he had been Associate Vice Chancellor of Planning and Research, Director of Development, and Dean of Instruction. He also served as a senior consultant for the East Bay Career Advancement Academy (CAA), and for the California Community Colleges Linked Learning Initiative (CCCLLI).

Dr. Yee has deep experience in K-12 education, retiring as the superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District (2013-14). Prior to that, he was elected to its Board of Education (2003-13) and served for two decades (1972-99) as a school principal, central office administrator, and teacher.

Dr. Yee also has served as chair of the Education Department at Holy Names University, associate professor at St. Mary’s College of California, and assistant professor at Boston College. He was the executive director of the Oakland Education Cabinet, under Mayor Elihu Harris, and the executive director of Safe Passages an initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He earned his Ed.D. from Stanford University in 1995, his M.P.A. at California State University Hayward in 1977, and B.A. at University of California, Berkeley in 1967.
